Google Ego Surf Hit

I have tried desperately to increase my Google Ego Surf Hit. But of no use. Guess the attempts wont' go futile but will be show off after somedays (months maybe).
If you are wondering what I am talking about, then search for you in Google. The number of results at the top that point to the actual 'you' denotes this jargon I said about. For me, unfortunately, its zero.
In order to increase it, you have to make sure that your webpage has been indexed by google. Google orders the results on the basis of many factors - relevance, page rank, how many links point to your site etc.
Steps to improve your Ego surf hit:
  1. Make sure your site will be indexed by Google. For that you need to submit your site here.
  2. There are also other advanced versions of site submission worth trying.
  3. See to it that your site has proper meta tags.
  4. Backlinks are important. Some other site must link to your site. This is the most difficult part. Googlebots crawl through the web. The bot goes to a page that has high importance (eg yahoo.com) ie. a page with high pagerank and then goes to the links pointed by this page. Thus the bot builds a tree. Now, the bot indexes often changing content regularly and hence if your link comes in it, then you are done; your site will be indexed by Google. Else it will reamain orphan.
Having done 1,2 and 3, if you wait some time say 2 months, there is a chance that your site will be indexed by Google and will subsequently appear in the search results!

GRE

GRE (Graduate Record Examination) must be the funniest and the most flawed examination in the world. I quite don't understand the need to test English to get into good Univs. A basic command is a must, but knowing about all those never-heard words won't work. Moreover, mugging up the 3000 words in Barron's guide is a pain in itself. This is not the way to expand your vocabulary.
Moreover ETS seems to be a corrupt organization conducting GRE and TOEFL. They charge like hell. But I end up finding that their website doesn't work. God only knows what they are doing.
I hope one day will come when GRE is abrogated (eh, this word comes in wordlist 1), or maybe Students start coming to India to study.. :)

A Long Ride..

It has been a cruel 3 months time since I posted anything. I was busy, but still I could have posted. Many a times, I would have emphemeral passing thoughts of something new to post. But they went unrealised..
Looking back, it has been a long ride in the fifth semester - time when I did a lot of hardwork and also did enjoy a lot. I have learnt a lot in that period and slept a lot less. I have witnessed great things happening and saw some disappointments too. Whatever be it, the ride was joyous.
Expecting the next semester to be on parallel lines..

The Alchemist

I just read the book The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. It turned out to be a fantastic reading, with all those wise philosophy packed in a simple story. In fact I felt I had learnt a lot and I felt contented after I finished the book. The story is about a boy who goes in search of his dreams and on his way he learns a lot of things about life. There is this concept about Omens emphasized in this book. I initially felt that they are used just to make the reading interesting but as the story approached the end, a feeling that Omens may be true gripped me. In fact, it is known that dogs start barking just before an earthquake!
Haven't you felt that something is going to be wrong and it actually happens so?
How do you explain Intuition?
These things may suffer from being scientifically unexplainable, as of now at least, but I feel that it is important to hear to these and to listen to what your heart has to say at times.
The film Butterfly Effect starts with this phrase :

It is said that something as small as the flutter of a butterfly's wing can ultimately cause a typhoon halfway around the world

-Chaos Theory

Think over this. May be Chaos theory cannot explain about Omens fully, but it gives us a feeling that things are inter-connected. The cat crossing road you take, has something to do with you (and your future). Sounds nasty?
Anyways, here are some of my favourite quotes from the novel :

The secret of happiness is to see all the marvels of the world, and never to forget the drops of oil on the spoon.

When you want something, all the universe helps conspires to help you achieve it.

The closer one gets to realizing his destiny, the more that destiny becomes his true reason for being.

Everyone on earth has a treasure that awaits him.

If you get a chance to read that book do read it! Paulo Coelho gave a gem of writing to the world. Hats off sir!

Forever in memory..

Certain incidents remain forever in memory. It might be pleasant or unpleasant. But it is important in life to enjoy every moment of "now" and to have a positive attitude towards it, as you never know whether this is one of those moments that might stay forever with you.
The most beautiful summer I have ever had, the Summer of 2006, will stay in my memory throughout my life. The beautiful land, the beautiful people, new friends, real work - all these make a green memory. I enjoyed every moment of my life there - be the long hard working hours or sight-seeing around or making new friends. Of course, there were troubles, there were problems but it is essential in life to see the positive aspects of life rather than brood over the pains. If you ask why, then - I had done my summer-internship at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore for a duration of two months. During that time, I stayed in NTU hostel, along with other students. The campus was very beautiful with vast lush green environment, baroque architecture, luxury cars around, wonderful climate etc. During my stay I never knew that this will turn out to be a green-one, I just thought that this is yet another phase in my life. But thinking back now, it feels great. I have a treasure of things related to my stay, kept safely. Whenever I see them, happiness springs up, a smile pops up.
Again there is one more phase I have had which is green - my stay at Anna University for a year before I got admission into IIT. When I think back now, I turn nostalgic. Living away from so many friends, it gives pain.
I am quite sure that this IIT-life (to be general college-life) will also turn out to be a chapter of this kind, a bigger one though. Thus I feel that it is important to have fun, rather than have a monotonous life!

Who in this world can live alone? I definitely think the answer is none. I got help from so many people that it seems that one single contribution from them, if not there, would have pulled me to the ground.

Cutting the Cake in the Air

Generally one gets Birthday gifts from friends and relatives and one doesn't present a gift himself. But for me, this birthday, I gave a gift to myself!
My birthday was on 10th of May. I had planned for the party in the night and the day was normal except for wishes from home. Except for Partha, Krishna and Kartik (who came to see me), my friends couldn't call me because I was away (some mails and Orkut did the job!).
Night came, Cake arrived, no candles. People surrounding me were strangers. I took the knife and said the song to myself in mind and cut the cake! That was the most delicious cake I have ever eaten.
Some days ago when I had to book tickets for my flight, I was free to choose between days around 10th but I chose 10th keeping in mind my birthday. Yes that was the gift I gave to myself and I had got the cake in the flight! Moreover that was my first flight. And it was the most memorable birthday I had..

A note on the name

Does the name sound weird to you? It should.. There are certain reasons (of course, weird reasons) to choose this name:
  1. The name should be very different so that one will not forget it :p
  2. If you think that sixth quadrant is same as second quadrant, then you are correct! In second quadrant, real is negative and imaginary is positive.. So I give importance to imagination than reality :D
Now, how was that??

First Post!

I can hear you say "Welcome to blogosphere!", and really thanks for that ;-) . The reason why I am here is that I felt that my weird thoughts might be worth putting on a blog and that a blog provides a means of expressing my likes, dislikes and opinions freely. So let me begin the journey in this new world! Cheers..
